In my graduate schooling I came across with three major phases that a society goes through to get fully developed. These are primitive or traditional, transitional or developing stage and finally the modern or fully developed phase.
Here the question arises, despite the diffusion of western ideas, technology and non tangible aspects, why are we still in transition phase? Why we are politically unstable, economically weak and socially dispersed and scattered. Any event or happening arouses our emotions and anybody can make use of us to acquire his interests. Our actions are emotions driven rather than being on the rational grounds. If we sit back and think calmly about this matter, we would come to realize the fact that technology and industrial development alone can never change the nation’s destiny. It is the urge to change ourselves that is needed. We would never get developed unless some positive change occurs in our thinking and attitude. Change in society starts at the very initial level. We will progress to betterment only if our mind sets change. And if we do so, all the issues of this transition phase of our society will find their solutions simultaneously and we will hopefully acquire the features of a modern nation.
what you are talking about is phases in economic and human development of a society. No doubt most of your observations are right but your criticism I dont necessarily agree with.According renowned developement economists todero and amartya sen..freedom and individuality are the basis of overall sustainable development.
ReplyDeleteI respect your thoughts. But problem is where do we have individuality dude? from DVD piracy to copying of their accent, what is being left? Where do we get our own individuality if we are influenced by inferiority complex. Packaging and marketing of our identity and distinguished features come at the later stage. First we need to adore our own belongings and should feel confident on our values. Development would be the ultimate consequence itself.
ReplyDeleteexactly..that is what i was talking about that, pursuing industrialization, green revolution etc won't work until we adore what we have.By the way English isnt a foreign language anymore to our region because of long period of time of British colonial rule..it is our second language! and its part of our heritage now
ReplyDeleteOur country maybe collective failure but it is also home to individual excellence
